  • Experience: High School Guidance Counselor for 30 years Served as pastor of two United Methodist Churches for 7 1/2 years in Ohio
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: Please feel free to use anything you want to and help people
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: I am especially interested in the subject of physical healing and also practical subjects that deal with every day life problems and solutions.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: The story of the fox hunter who sold his business to a young guy giving him all of the instructions for success. In the spring the new hunter came back. The old fox hunter wanted to know how it went over the winter. He said, "I didn’t catch the first fox." The old hunter wanted to know if he followed his instructions to the letter. The novice said, "No, I found a BETTER WAY." Do we follow our way or God’s way? Are we successful.
  • Family: My family consists of my wonderful husband, Walter, and we have been married 32 years. He has been totally supportive to me throughout my ministry.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: Had they been living at the time I entered the ministry, they would have felt that my sermons were practical and down to earth.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: He really thinks that they are well prepared, down to earth and practical and that I have spent a lot of time on them because I want them to help people once they take the time to come and hear them.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Do not let people define you. Allow God to lead you into what he wants. Not what people want.
  • Books that have had an impact: Kenneth Copeland and Kenneth Hagin books on healing and how to receive from God.
  • Hobbies: writing--Have three books published and they can be ordered from me as follows: Moments with Marilyn $12.95 (125 inspirational devotionals) More Moments with Marilyn $14.95 (125 more inspirational devotionals) Prayers from the Heart (100 prayers on a variety of concerns in a casual style that hits home). Order from: Dr. Marilyn S. Murphree 3642 Kay Dr. Zanesville, Ohio 43701 A fourth book is almost completed. It will be called Many Moments with Marilyn--another 125 devotionals.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Make a clear cut commitment and serve the Lord rain or shine.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: I was scheduled to baptize a baby and that morning the water was turned off at the church due to a problem. I filled the baptismal font with ice cubes and thought they would be melted before time to do the baptism. They weren’t. Parents saw the ice cubes and wondered why I was baptizing with ice cubes.
  • What I want on my tombstone: She was faithful to the Lord .

There are several things to do when you don't know what to do but running off in all directions is not one of them.

What Do You Do When You Don’t Know What to Do? Sometimes when we don’t know what to do we want to fly off in all directions and do something but it may be the time to do nothing. Different verses in scripture tell us to stand still and don’t move just yet. “Stand still and see the ...read more

We often say things that overrule what God has said and then we wonder why our prayers are not answered. He tells us he is the Lord that healeth us and we disagree because we still have pain in our body and do not feel healed.

Agree with God Job 22:21-25 ESV “Agree with God, and be at peace, thereby good will come to you. Receive instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart. If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up” (English Standard Version). We often say things that overrule what God has ...read more
