• Education: I hold a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma and a Master’s of Divinity from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.
• Experience: I have been an ordained pastor of the United Methodist Church since 1989. In 1999, I began full-time evangelism. I have been a published writer since 1978. I have written for "The Upper Room," "Christian Single," "Stand Firm," and other magazines. My devotional book, "If There Is No God," is published by Honor Books/River Oak Publishing. I also had a play published by Contemporary Drama Service entitled "Called Back."

• Sermon or series that made a difference: The sermons of Mike Slaughter, pastor of Ginghamsburg UMC in Ohio, have always fired me up. I like any message that stirs my heart to greater devotion of Christ and challenges me to serve Him in a deeper way.
• One of my favorite illustrations: There’s an illustration in the NIV Study Bible that has always stuck with me....the story of "the peace child" in a remote New Guinea village. A frustrated missionary, trying to explain the atonement to warring tribes, finally found the perfect illustration in their own culture. If one tribe gave a child to the other tribe, there would be peace as long as the child lived. The missionary explained that God had sent his only Son, Jesus, to live among a hostile race, to make peace with the world.
• Family: I have been married since 1982 to Laura. We have three children: Paul, Sam and Abigail. We also have two rat terriers and two bunny rabbits. The rabbits are part of my clown show!
• What my parents think of my sermons: My parents are totally biased. They are like peanuts on the airlines....always complimentary.
• What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: Laura tells me I preach too long....an occupational hazard!
• Best advice given to me about preaching: My dad, who was hard of hearing, told me to preach loudly. That’s an advantage if the congregation is gray-headed and their sound system is on the blink!
• Books that have had an impact: I enjoy good writing from practically anyone. My favorites in the inspirational field include C.S. Lewis, Max Lucado and Philip Yancey.
• Hobbies: I enjoy writing, reading, travel, gardening and movies. I am learning Spanish, as I visit Mexico twice a year for mission work.
• If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Jesus Christ changed me....therefore, he can change ANYONE!
• Something funny that happened while preaching: One time I told a funny story and the whole congregation burst into laughter. As the hilarity died down, a kid on the front row loudly said, "It wasn’t THAT funny." The laughter started again.
• What I want on my tombstone: My friends and family loved me, but Jesus loved me most of all
