About Martin
  • Education: I completed year 11. I also completed a trade - Boilermaker/welder. I then went into ministry and have completed a BTh (Ausralian College of Theology) as well as a BMin (Queensland Baptist College of Ministries). I am currently involved in a Graduate Diploma of Ministries working towards my ordination.
  • Experience: As far as ministry experience I have been involved in church life for most of my adult life, albeit in a lay capacity until I went and did some formal training. My ministry experience ranges from SS teacher, youth leader, deacon, church secretary, lay preaching and short term missions.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: A sermon describing three possible ways to live the Christian life. It was called "The risk-taker, the care-taker, and the under-taker". I am where I am today because I opted for the first way!
  • Family: I am married to Leane and we have three active boys - Josh (13), Samuel (11), and BJ (9). We also have two budgies - ’Bubbles’ and ’Sally’.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: My wife is my best critic. She gives me honest appraisals that hurt sometimes but without her my preaching would not improve.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Best advice I read: "A preacher whose chief power is not in studious prayer is, to that extent, a man who does not know his business. He cannot be a sound preacher unless he is a priest. (P.T.Forsyth)
  • Books that have had an impact: Holiness (Ryle); Balancing the Christian Life (Ryrie); The Saving Life of Christ (Thomas); The Life that Wins (Nee); Not I But Christ (Nee); Classic Christianity (George); The Knowledge of the Holy (Tozer); The Purpose driven Church (Warren); and more recently How People Grow (Cloud/Townsend).
  • Hobbies: I enjoy reading, computer games and surfing the net, all sports especially AFL football and anything outdoors.
  • What I want on my tombstone: The Friend of God
