About Matthew
  • Education: I received my BS in Political Science from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. I received my Master of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
  • Experience: I have served as a pastor for the past 15 1/2 years. Prior to that I served two different churches as An Associate Pastor for Youth & Education.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: Feel free to use any or all of these sermons in your ministry. Like many pastors I am indepted to many individuals and countless websites including sermon central for the illustrations and ideas included in these sermons.
  • Family: My wife Mary Anne (Hill) Sickling and I have 3 children. Leigh Ann (15), Lora (12), and Leslie (9).
  • What my parents think of my sermons: Like most parents they think my sermons are better than they probably are.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: She thinks I do a good job of preparing my sermons but need to work on my delivery.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Be yourself and don’t try to imitate someone else.
  • Books that have had an impact: Experiencing God - Henry Blackaby Purpose Driven Life- Rick Warren Communicating for change - Andy Stanly
  • Hobbies: Hunting, fishing, golf,
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: The Church in America needs to ’wake up’ and quit ’playing church’ and start being the church.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: During my first pastorate my oldest daughter had just started to talk. The church we were serving was small and there wasn’t a nursery. So my wife kept her in the worship serivce. She had learned that when ’church’ was over we would close in prayer. One Wednesday night, I had just started my ’Bible Study’ and she started saying, "Amen," and wouldn’t stop. I guess she was ready to go home. Needless to say, noone paid any attention to me or to what I was saying throughout the rest of the night.
