About Richard
  • Education: Attended Lincoln Christian University from 1962-1970. Graduated with a BA degree in ministry and another BA degree in Christian Education, both in 1967. Graduated with a Masters Degree in 1969 in the field of Preaching and Administration. Honorary Doctorate granted in 1971 from Homestead College of the Bible, in Homestead, FL.
  • Experience: Began preaching at the Bethany Christian Church in 1963, Brownstown, IL at age 19 traveling 100 miles each way from college over the week ends. I was ordained at the Southport Heights Christian Church, Southport, IN, in 1966. I have traveled with Revival Fires Evangelistic Organization to work with establishing churches in Jamaica, WI; India-ten times and the islands of Hawaii. I have held many revival meetings in the Midwest.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: Todays sermons are far different than when I first began in 1963. I have more of life lessons to share in growth situations. Todays sermons are for today and tomorrows generations. They are more powerful and moving than even 10 years ago.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: The Steps Jesus Took Revival meetings of the New Testament Miracles of the Bible Parables of the Bible Series on James Series on Philippians, Acts, Jude, Revelation, John, Matthew, Luke, Mark
  • One of my favorite illustrations: An evangelist was at his own church for Sunday Morning service. After dinner he fell asleep and dreamt that he had died and his 4 year old died with him. He was in heaven when the crowd split and he stood face to face with his Saviour. Jesus said to him-Look around and tell me what you see. The evangelist could only see people everywhere. Jesus said -I need one son to die for all of the people. The evangelist woke up and realized how much God really did love him.
  • Family: Two sons: Timothy Alan McQuinn, born 1964, lives with his wife Cynthia and son James Thomas McQuinn in Monticello, IN Tim serves as an Elder at the Burnettsville, IN Christian Church. David Richard McQuinn, born 1970, lives in Milwaukee, WI with his wife Renee and two children, daughter Amelia, and son Zach. Dave and family are great workers in their home church One Step Daughter: Brandy Perov born 1980, lives in Greenwood, IN
  • What my parents think of my sermons: I have always had the support of my step-mom, Beverly Wright. My three brothers and one sister have always supported and listened to the sermons.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: Sandy is a dedicated preachers wife. I bounce ideas off of her for sermons. She is a RN and there are many heart ache stories she lets me peek into for illustrations.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Dig your wells deep. Study hard. Spend one hour of study for every minute you spend in preaching. Fast and pray. Preach with convictions and paint word pictures. Preach the truch in love. Be instructive, educational, spiritual and always point the way to Christ. Tell it like it is but always with love.
  • Books that have had an impact: Christ of the Gospels Max Lucado's books Works by Charles Swindoll Character Sketches The Greatest Work In the World ACTS
  • Hobbies: Fishing, traveling, light construction, Indianapolis 500 Supervisor, 50 years, Brickyard 400 Supervisor since its beginning. Singing, writing, helping neighbors, President of our local Housing Organization Association. Volunteer Fire department Chaplain and more..................
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Jesus Loves Me, This I know--------for sure. Here is why I believe it and here is why you ought to follow the King of Kings
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: I broke my tail bone off. It had to be removed three weeks before this past Easter 2010. I was not in the pulpit until Easter so that the wound could heal. In the great Easter morning service, I was sweating. It was pouring out of me as I proclaimed the Easter story and meaning. The church was packed. My sermon was prepared and delivered. I had 7 more minutes to go. The sweat was pouring down my legs. I stepped back from the pulpit to find blood all over the floor. I stopped! More.
  • What I want on my tombstone: He did what God wanted Him to do with lots of Love
