About Rick
  • Education: BA in Psychology at University of Oklahoma (1986) MDiv at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (in progress)
  • Experience: Journeyman/church planter Hong Kong Baptist Mission 1989-91 Missionary (West Africa & East Asia) International Mission Board 1998-2007 Pastor - Immanuel Southern Baptist Church - Aug 2007 to present
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: I only use an outline format for my sermons. Sometimes, you might recognize points that go with Scripture, but it is just the framework on which to hang the meat of the message. Please feel free to use these outlines to encourage the Bride of Christ and enlarge God's Kingdom!
  • One of my favorite illustrations: Talking about evangelism: If you were in a big building and you discovered a fire, you wouldn't just leave without telling others about the fire. You'd holler and scream and beat on doors, alerting everyone to the eminent danger. At the very least, you'd pull the fire alarm. We need to be that way when sharing the Gospel. The building's on fire and most of us are quietly leaving without letting anyone else know.
  • Family: Married to Sally since 1992. Two beautiful daughters.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: My mom thinks I'm the best thing since sliced bread...
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: She loves me, anyway...
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: "Lift up Jesus and love the people"
  • Books that have had an impact: Through Gates of Splendor - Elizabeth Elliott
  • Hobbies: Digital photography, travel, blogging, writing, numismatics and paper money, fishing and shooting - but there hardly ever seems like there is enough time to do any of these! I also serve as chaplain for the local police and sheriff's offices.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Be ready, because Gabriel is wetting his lips....
  • What I want on my tombstone: Quit looking down; he ain't here.

When I was a little boy, I had a whole set of Tonka Toy cars, trucks, dump trucks, tractors, and even an excavator! JUST DIDN'T WORK RIGHT My parents bought my 16 year old daughter her first car, a 1970 VW Beetle. While it was cute and a collector car, it wouldn’t run right.
