About Scott
  • Education: Under grad: Wheaton College. Grad: Trinity Evangelical Divinity School; Emmanuel Christian Seminary.
  • Experience: Since 1995. All varieties (children, youth, preaching.)
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: God spoke and the rest is commentary, so "steal" from me freely, with a shout out to Arthur F. Holmes, "All truth is God’s truth."
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: Hybels preaching about his love and passion for the church. Piper preaching about the manifold glories of God, or, just about anything.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: I received a cell phone call during a recent sermon. (Okay, actually I planned it that way.)
  • Family: Wife. Two kids. Two dogs.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: "You’re getting better."
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: Speak slower. Use smaller words. Be more illustrative. You’re getting better.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Find your own voice.
  • Books that have had an impact: How ’bout we do authors? In (vaguely) chronological order... David, Paul, writer of Hebrews, John, Augustine, Luther, Calvin, Alexander Campbell, Bonhoeffer, Barth, Lewis, Henry, Jim Elliot, Arthur F. Holmes, Erickson, Grudem, Carson, Hybels, Piper.
  • Hobbies: Soccer, basketball, golf, eating. Okay, more like... soccer, basketball, and golf to support my (bad) habit of eating more than I should. I also drink copious amounts of coffee.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: I received a cell phone call during a recent sermon. (Okay, actually I planned it that way.)
  • What I want on my tombstone: He gave up what he could not keep to gain that which he could not lose.
