About Shawn
  • Education: I have a bachelor’s degree in Science from Northeastern Oklahoma State University. And I have completed courses from Global University to gain my lisence for ministry.
  • Experience: I have been the pastro of two churches in my short ministerial career. Savanna, Oklahoma 2 years. and Keefeton, Oklahoma for the past 4 years, where I am currently the senior pastor.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: Appeasement - An old man and a little boy was traveling to town, when they passed a group of people who said " look at those two. They are too foolish to ride the donkey to town." Embarrased, The old man then got on the donkey and they passed another group of people who said "Look at that mean old man riding that donkey while that poor little boy has to walk alone." Convicted, the old man got down and the little boy got on the donkey and they came upon another group of people that were saying "What a selfish little boy, he is making that old man walk while he gets to ride the donkey, so they picked up the donkey and carried him to town. You can’t please everyone.
  • Family: I have been married to my lovely wife Kandy for 17 years. We have two children. Cody who is 16 and Kaitlyn who is 10. They all are very supportive and helpful and I have been blessed by them in ways that are honestly to numerous to count.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: They are proud of me, my family and our ministry.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: "I hear this at home"
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: an old evangelist once said that "every good minister must have a hide of a Rhinocerous and a backbone of steel" and my uncle who is a minister simply told me when I was struggling my first year: "Just preach the word and love the people" both of these have been my favorites.
  • Books that have had an impact: Hard to Believe - John McCarthur Christianity in Crisis - Hank Hanneggraff What in the World is going on? - David Jeremiah Tyranny and Liberty - Mark Levin
  • Hobbies: I am an adventurer at heart and I enjoy anything that involves God’s creation (nature). Hiking, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, fourwheeling, . . . you get the idea.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Love God and love one another!
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: I know there is something but nothing comes to mind.
  • What I want on my tombstone: (It doesn’t matter I won’t be there.)

An analogy of three types of traps (holes) we may find ourselves in and the only way to get out.

Introduction: When I was a teenager, I remember my uncle telling me of times when He would go spelunker caves. He told me that there were times deep inside some of the caves where you had to crawl on your stomach and through the water and mud and as the walls of the caves would get tighter and ...read more
