About Val
  • Education: High School education for myself and 3 years of Army. My wife has 12 years plus two years of college and has taught grade school.
  • Experience: Have been a printer since 1963. I had a one-man print shop, operating out of my garage, since 1980. I retired from printing in 2012 but we are still active in the ministry. Our web page is: www.covenantmessenger.org
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: God has many attributes but I think the one we are unaware of the most is this: God has a sense of humor.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: I did teaching on "The Ashes of the Red Heifer" several years ago. It was on Sermon Central (still is). One pastor liked it so much he translated it into Spanish so that version is also on Sermon Central.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: My favorite illustration is from a teaching by Malcom Smith on "Knowing the Will of God". He told about a pastor who was encouraged to become a pastor by family and friends. He followed their advice and after graduating from seminary, pastored a large church. After awhile he became discouraged. The "light" of the Gospel seemed to have dimmed and he no longer wanted to pastor. This caused so much stress on him he soon developed high blood pressure which led to a heart attack. As he lay in t
  • Family: My wife and I have raised 5 children and have 12 grandchildren.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: They are with the Lord.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: My wife, Julie, is always supportive and encouraging.
  • Books that have had an impact: For me, "The Miracle of the Scarlet Thread" by Richard Booker has made the biggest impact on my life. It explains the New Covenant very simply.
  • Hobbies: Fishing, acrylic & watercolor painting but most of all, studying the Bible.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: The work done on the Cross at Calvary was a "finished" work. Our salvation is paid in full. Jesus not only saves but still delivers from bondage and still heals the body. I have never found a "cut-off date" in the Bible which tells when the Gifts of the Holy Spirit ended. They have only ended in the minds of most mainline denominations who, as the Bible prophesied in 2 Tim. 3:1 & 5, "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. . . . verse 5 Having a form of
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: One time when at the podium I discovered my fly was unzipped. I just turned my back to the congregation and calmly zipped it back up. No one knew what had happened.
  • What I want on my tombstone: "That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works." Psalm 26:7

The story of the Good Samaritan gives us a picture of God's plan of salvation starting with Adam and ending with the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

Because of the New Covenant, we become heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ. We are Blood Brothers with Jesus when we accept Jesus as sacrifice for our sins.

YOUR BLOOD BROTHER, JESUS Jeremiah 31:31-34, "Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— 32 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them ...read more

  • Free Lunch!

    Contributed on Nov 25, 2019

There are always claims of a "Free Lunch" but none of them prove to be true, with one exception. It's a real meal and it really is free.

(This is a sermonette and/or illustration, that was taken from one of our Gospel tracts. It could be considered tongue-in-cheek. It simply explains the Marriage Supper of the Lamb and how to qualify to participate in it.) Someone once said there is no such thing as a “free lunch.” There are ...read more
