About Wade
  • Education: I am completing my bacholors degree in Spanish with a minor in French (I was going to school to be a high school teacher before the Lord changed the direction of my life). After that I intend to go into postgraduate work in theology.
  • Experience: I am twenty-six years old and I have been preaching since 1994 (nine years) when the Lord called me to preach. For eight of those years I have been in the pastorate in some form or another. I was the Associate Pastor at Mt. Pleasant G/B Church for two years and eight months, then at Union G/B Church for two years as Pastor, and now I am going on my third year at Macedonia G/B Church as Senior Pastor. I have also had the pleasure to preach in Spanish both at home and in Honduras.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: For those who look at the sermons I have preached, I want them to realize that any good they glean from them is due to the grace of God and not any natural ability that I posses. Without him I can do nothing. Please take the small ammount of light I have recieved and add to it the light that the Lord gives you and do great things with it in your church. If anything that I have said in a sermon will help you to advance the kingdom of God, then I am grateful for the opportunity to be of service.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: The sermon that most stands out in my mind is one that I heard preached at an ordination service. I had been ordained for a couple of years and I was attending one of our associational ordination services where a good friend was preaching. He preached about Paul’s advice to Timmothy in the book of II Timothy where Paul told him to simply preach the "Word". Not opinions, feelings, not even about the word, but simply preach the word. That sermon changed me and my preaching forever!
  • One of my favorite illustrations: One of my favorite illustrations is a saying that I heard one time and I have used it a many times in preaching. "Sitting in church will not make you a christian any more than sitting in a hen house will make you a chicken."
  • What my parents think of my sermons: I guess my parents are a little prejudice when it comes to my sermons, they always like them. However, my most enthusiastic fan is my grandmother. She sits and watches the video tapes of my sermons over and over again. For the life of me I cannot see why. Each time I see one of my tapes all I can think is, "Why on earth would anyone want to come and listen to my preaching, when there are others so much more able than I."
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: The best advice given to me about preaching was in an old book I have called "The Seven Worlds of the Minister" by Dr. James Kennedy. He quoted Richard Baxter as saying, "A preacher should preach as never sure to preach again, and as a dying man to dying men." I think that even though Mr. Bazter gave that advice a couple of hundred years ago, it still holds true today.
  • Books that have had an impact: The books that have had the most impact on me are probably E.M. Bounds’ "Power Through Prayer" and Charles Spurgeon’s "Lectures to My Students." I would highly recomend that any young minister read and reread those on at least an annual basis. A quote stands out in my mind from E.M. Bounds in his booklet where he said, "Light praying makes light preaching." I have found that to be true from ezperience. No ammount of study can compensate for time spent alone with the Master.
  • Hobbies: I am a country boy and I enjoy almost anything outdoors. I grew up hunting quail and rabbits with my dad, so I am especially fond of hunting. I also enjoy working on the farm with horses and cattle.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: If I were only allowed to preach one more time, what else could I say than "there is a Heaven that is glorious to gain and a Hell that is Hot to loose, repent and believe the gospel that you might be saved."
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: I was preaching at my first church one night when a little boy of about three years of age (who had been practicing preaching at home standing on and encyclopedia) slipped away from his mother and stood in the isle and began preaching right along with me. He was stomping his foot and shaking his finger just like a preacher, and even though he couldn’t talk very plain he sure was trying to shout out the gospel.
  • What I want on my tombstone: "It is Well With My Soul"
