Elizabeth Elliot, in her book, Let Me Be a Woman, records the story of Gladys Aylward, [who was] unable to accept the looks God had given her. Ms. Aylward told how when she was a child she had two great sorrows. One [was] that while all her friends had beautiful golden hair, hers was black. The
THE BEAUTY OF CHRIST
Just as we are attracted to the loveliness of a sunset, of the Grand Canyon, of the intricate order of a mariposa leaf or esperanza blossom, we are awed by the deeds of power in the Old Testament and New. But we are also attracted by the beauty of the words of Christ, words
I heard about a rabbit and a snake meeting in the forest. The rabbit said, "We don’t know how we look. Why don’t we describe each other to the other so we’ll know how we look?" The snake said, "Good idea. You’ve got a pink nose, long ears, and a fluffy little tail." The rabbit liked

MAYBE GOD WANTS US TO SAY WOW
Last week a young man asked me why God made sharks. I could have come up with many scientific answers, but again the point of all this is to give God glory, so I finally answered "Maybe sometimes God just wants us to say wow."
I used to wonder why God made

When I first came to Geneva, I was struck by how many attractive older women there are here. I thought they must have been strikingly beautiful as young women. When we had our 40th anniversary, I got to see pictures of our lovely women. They were all attractive, still I realized that they had grown

Late Bloomers! (09.22.05--Grace Walks!--Psalm 93:5)
Fairness is a doctrine that we have gone hog-wild with. We seem as a people possessed by a sense of “all things being equal.” Unfortunately, we are so captivated by a sense of justice at all costs, we often lose sight of the fact that a

BLIND BUT NOW I SEE
Peter spent a few years trying to cope with his blindness, learning ways of looking after himself so that he wasn’t so much a burden upon his family, although they still continued to visit on the odd occasion. He also learned how to read Braille.

WHEN THE VEIL IS REMOVED
There are many pictures of Mt Taranaki in NZ. It looked beautiful. It may be difficult for one to see it for oneself as it is generally covered in clouds. When the clouds are removed, the sight of the mountain takes one’s breath away.
Many know a lot about the Lord

LET YOUR ADORNING BE HIDDEN
Author Jennifer McBride wrote,
"Ladies and gentlemen, I exhort you to dress in such a way that does not capture anyone’s gaze, but actually gives others something else, besides your attire, to think about. Discretion is a godly trait. At times, it is better to

THE PAINT COVERED ITS BEAUTY
A few years ago when I lived in Poland we were at a local museum which had a beautiful sculpture of Mary holding Jesus. For years it stood on a street corner before the city decided to clean it up and restore it. Up to that point no one thought it was anything

Below is a wonderful poem Audrey Hepburn wrote when asked to share her ’beauty tips.’
It was read at her funeral years later.
For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
