In 1894, George W. Cole of Asbury Park, NJ compounded a mixture for the care and maintenance of a bicycle. The formula resulted in the famous 3-IN-ONE® Oil that accomplishes three separate things with one application. Do you know what they are? They are: a lubricant, a rust preventive and a cleaner.

3-IN-ONE has three ingredients. One ingredient is not the other. The lubricant is not the rust preventive or the cleaner. The rust preventive is neither the lubricant nor the cleaner. The cleaner is not the lubricant nor the rust preventive.

Yet the 3-IN-ONE product would not exist without all three. You do not buy three separate cans of 3-IN-ONE. All those ingredients are mixed together into one product. To express that in reverse, you buy only one product but get three ingredients.

What an ordinary way to begin a sermon on theological truth. We are looking today at the concept of the Trinity, because it is basic and fundamental to the proper understanding of God.
