Una historia impactante la de Charles Templenton, un elocuente predicador, compañero de púlpito y amigo de Billy Graham quien, en el recorrido de la vida cristiana y el ministerio, llegó a un momento en donde sus cuestionamientos acerca de Dios tornó su corazón hacia la dureza.
Templenton no cuestionó tanto la existencia de Dios y la divinidad de Jesús, como la confiabilidad de la Escritura. Sin embargo, terminó abrazando el agnosticismo, una corriente filosófica la cual sostiene que nada se puede decir con certeza a cerca de Dios. Rechazando toda afirmación a favor o en contra de su existencia.
En su libro “The Case for Faith”, Lee Strobel preguntó a Templenton: “¿Hay algo en particular que le hizo perder su fe en Dios?” La fotografía de una mujer africana que sostenía en sus brazos el cuerpo de su bebé sin vida, por causa de la terrible sequía. –respondió. En esa foto, publicada en la revista Life, esta mujer tenía su mirada dirigida hacia el cielo con una expresión de desesperación y total abandono.”
En aquel momento, dijo Templenton, me puse a pensar: “¿Será posible creer que existe un Dios amoroso que cuida de su creación, cuando lo único que esta mujer necesitaba era un poco de lluvia? ¿Cómo un Dios de amor puede hacerle esto a esta mujer?”
