Three turtles decided to go on a picnic. They were the best of friends. Before long it started to rain, they decided that one of them should go back and get some umbrellas.

One turtle agreed to go but only if the other two promised not to begin eating until he returned. They promised. He headed out.

They waited a day, then a week, then a month, and finally a whole year. Still their friend had not returned with the umbrellas.

Finally, one said, "Look, he's not coming back, let's go ahead and eat." Just then the turtle who was supposed to be bringing the umbrellas stuck his head out from behind a rock and said, "If you do, I won't go!"
