I recall an incident where I met with prejudice. I was being introduced to a Sergeant, who shook my hand, but then examined my uniform. Something was mission--Jump Wings. He said, “Oh, you’re not Airborne”, then spat on his hand and wiped it off on the bottom of his boot. I was too shocked to drop him for pushups! Prejudice can take many forms. I saw no reason to jump out of a perfectly good airplane, but in so doing I was regarded as a “leg”. The Airborne were the elite.
