It wasn’t long after arriving at this church that I discovered unbeknownst to the leadership that the church had been running a $12,000 a month deficit the two years after Katrina which was supplemented by donations received from across the country which were not dedicated to relief. Then we discovered the new financial manager of the preschool started embezzling funds just weeks after entering the position. In addition, the leadership and membership of the church expressed that they had a deep desire to become a multiethnic church. That was something I knew nothing about nor had ever experienced. I was in way over my head. One morning as I drove into work, I was passing the SuperDome and broke down in tears and cried out to God that I can’t do this alone. I need you in this. It’s too big, too much and too challenging for me to be able to handle all of this. And that’s exactly where God wants us!
