I was once asked if a person had to believe in the Trinity to be saved. The answer is no, if the person comes in child-like faith. But a saved person will not reject the doctrine, properly taught. Scholars have debated the nature and meaning of the Trinity for centuries, and indeed, the debate continues to this day. The confession of Peter was "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God," not one trinitarian formula or another.
