Boomers Volunteer: Boomers have become one of the most important components of U.S. volunteer organizations. The Corporation for National and Community Service reports: There are 65.4 million volunteers in the U.S. While Boomers are about 25% of the adult population over 18, they are 40% of the volunteer population. 1 in 3 Boomers volunteers vs. only 1 in 4 traditional seniors (those 65+). Since there are so many more Boomers than seniors, over 25 million Boomers are volunteers vs. only 8 million 65+ volunteers. Any volunteer dependent organization should have a strategy for recruiting and retaining Boomers. (The Boomer Project 8/7/06)
