But if you are one, who not only listens to the word but does it, like James says here, you are blessed. I need to clarify something on the law that James is referring to. Most people don’t find the law liberating, they find it restricting with all these things you can’t do. I’ve shared this one before, but when I was 8 years old, my mother took my sister and I to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC. It’s big with many buildings. You’ll need to spend several days there if you want to see everything. We went into the Museum of Natural History and there was this large whale. I had been interested in whales, because we had read Moby Dick and I liked looking at pictures of whales in the encyclopedia. And so I was really excited to see the whale. I wanted to see what it felt like. But there was a sign on the whale that read, “DO NOT TOUCH.” I didn’t like that. I wanted to know what it felt like. And I touched the whale. My mother reminded me that the sign said “DO NOT TOUCH.” I didn’t like that. It was restrictive. Keeping God’s law brings freedom, non bondage.
