SON GETS THEIR CHOICE IN WILL

A testator left all his estate to a monastery on condition that on the return of his only son, then abroad, the worthy fathers should give him "whatever they should choose."

When the son returned home he went to the monastery, and received but a small share, the monks choosing to keep the greater part for themselves. A barrister advised him to sue the monastery.

The suit was brought, and the ingenious barrister, in his argument to the court, said: "The testator has left his son that share of the estate which the monks should choose; these are the express words of his will. Now it is plain what part they have chosen by what they keep for themselves. 'Let me have,' says he, 'that part they have chosen, and I am satisfied.' "
