WHY FRUIT?
Why are these character traits called fruit of the spirit? Why not other food groups: like meat of the spirit or bread of the spirit or dairy of the spirit?
There are four reasons why it’s called fruit of the spirit: because fruit is healthy, sweet, living and whole.
Fruit is healthy

FRUIT DISTRIBUTION
The Spirit's provision of fruit might be compared to a man standing on a ladder in an orchard, picking the fruit and dropping it into a basket held by a helper below. No matter how much fruit is picked and dropped, the helper

BEARING FRUIT
I once read of a little boy who used to escape his bedroom after being punished. He would crawl out of his bedroom window down an old fruit tree to the ground. One day, his father told him that he was going to chop down the fruit tree, because it hadn’t borne any fruit for a number

FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
The fruit is singular, not plural.
The most common teaching is that there are nine fruits of the Spirit. But that’s not the case. It’s one “fruit,” and that fruit has those characteristics.
For instance, take an apple. It’s one apple, but it has many characteristics: red,

THE FORBIDDEN FRUIT
And the first thing God told Adam and Eve was: "Don't."
"Don't what?" Adam replied.
"Don't eat the forbidden fruit," God said.
"Forbidden fruit? We got forbidden fruit? Hey, Eve . . . we got Forbidden Fruit!"
"No way!"
"Yes WAY!"
"Don't eat that fruit!" said

The fruit of the Spirit is singular. it is "fruit" and not "fruits". It is only one letter, but it matters deeply.
When you walk in the Spirit, all of these things described in Galatians 5:19-23 will be present in your life.
However, there is a three-fold outline in Galatians

WORKS VS. FRUIT
A machine in a factory works and turns out a product, but it could never manufacture "fruit." Fruit must grow out of life, and, in the case of the believer, it is the life of the Spirit (Gal. 5:25). When you think of "works," you think of effort, labor, strain, and toil; when you

Galatians 5:19-23 describes the fruit of the Spirit. The fruit described by Paul in Galatians 5 is not something that is a goal for Christian living produced by the ability of the believer. No, it is the very character of Christ produced within us by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.

This single fruit of the Spirit is quite dynamic. It has many dimensions to it: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. It’s as if this single fruit has multiple flavors. I’m reminded of the movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. There
