If you are a marathon runner you are encouraged to eat pasta the night before the race because pasta has lots of energy in and the speed of release of energy from Pasta is slow so that you get it during the race just when you need it. It’s actually a bit more complicated than that though.

Marathon runners often reach the point where they wonder whether they can keep going. They hit the wall. They doubt they can finish the race. Their muscles burn with pain; their strength is gone. They feel defeated.

Jesus reminds me here of the long distance runner. Think of the Marathon runner. There has to be a settled determination in your heart if you are going to win a Marathon.

RUN WITH ENDURANCE
Unlike most competitions however, running the race in spiritual terms is not to try to be first, but to be faithful and finish! The Christian race is not a competitive event to see who comes in first, but an endurance run to see who finishes faithfully.
