WINNING FOR ANOTHER--COMMUNION MEDITATION

Giving your life for someone else is a powerful image. When it happens, it is impossible to miss the divine in it.

Even when the sacrifice happens on a less than mortal level, it still echoes a spiritual truth.

The world saw a little of this over the last few weeks during the world’s most famous cycling race, The Tour de France. Nineteen team mates gave up their right to be champions so that Lance Armstrong could win for the fifth consecutive year.

No one knows their names, and we hardly ever saw their faces during the event. But they gave their all for the benefit of Lance Armstrong. Cycling might be the only team sport where only one of the team members actually claims the prize.

And how opposite from our Christian faith where One Man won the race so that we could all be winners. One man’s death brought victory to all who would believe in him.
