No Religion: Experts who compared the results of religious identification surveys for ’90 and ‘01 report that those who said they have “no” religious identification are the fastest growing U.S. religious group. They comprised 8% of respondents in ‘90 and 14% in ‘01, or approximately 30 million people in ‘01. “None’s” are likely to be: located in the Pacific Northwest, under age 30, single, male, and Democrat. Ariel Keysar, director of the study, believes many who respond “no” actually “agreed strongly” that God exists. They may be better described as being “unaffiliated.” (Baptists Today, 1/24/04)
