Working Poor: There are 35 million people in the country living in poverty. Most of the adults in that group work, notes Ron Suskind, the author of The Price of Loyalty. Worker Output rose at a 2.7% annual rate in Q4 of ’03, down from 9.5% in Q3 reports the Labor Department. Productivity for year increased 4.2% while wages grew 0.5% from October to December and hours worked increased 1.5%. The smaller rise in productivity and slow increase in wages could encourage more hiring. (USA Today 2/6/04)
