Half Of Americans Reading: About 1 in every 2 Americans is currently engrossed in some type of book, according to Gallup’s latest measure of the public’s reading habits. About half also say they have read more than 5 books in the past year, about the same as 15 years ago. There is no widespread pattern to how people select their books—some choose by the author, others recommendations from friends, and still others by browsing. (Gallup alert 6/3/05)
