HANDS-FREE TALKING DOESN’T HELP

Caution: Evidence now shows hands-free talking isn’t less of a distraction when driving. In fact, drivers who talk on a cell phone in any way are four times more likely to become involved in an accident, according to David Strayer, research director at the Univ. of Utah’s Applied Cognition Lab. "A fourfold increase in accident risk is like driving with a 0.08 blood alcohol level," says Strayer. Drivers are eight times more likely to get into an accident when text-messaging. About half of teens text-message when driving.
