The second paragraph of The Declaration of Independence begins:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness...
Thus, America was established on the common commitment of its people to be governed by "...the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God..." (Declaration of Independence)
