3000 MILES WIDE AND 3 INCHES DEEP

According to a 2008 Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life,

57 percent of evangelical church attendees said they believe many religions can lead to eternal life. In fact, 70 percent of Americans with at least some religious affiliation shared that idea.

The results of survey led one sociologist to comment "The survey shows religion in America is, indeed, 3,000 miles wide and only three inches deep," D. Michael Lindsay, a Rice University sociologist of religion.
