Many Christians balk at the words "He descended into hell" and wonder if this is really taught in Scripture. I’m attempting to clarify what occurred between the cross and the empty tomb.

We can’t treat Jesus like Socrates, Gandhi or Confucius. The Ascension is the final proof that we are dealing with more than a man. All the Bible says about who Jesus is makes little sense without the Ascension.

Christ came the first time as Savior, and will return as Judge. Justice is certain. It may not be immediate, but it is inevitable…if not in this life, surely in the next.

Jesus calls the Holy Spirit (depending on your translation) a “Helper”, “Comforter”, or “Counselor” (vs 16). This title literally means one who comes alongside to assist us, working in and through us, encouraging us along life’s way.

Forgiveness is being released from the debt we owe. By canceling our debt, God sets us free. All unhappiness in life can be traced to rejecting God’s love and forgiveness.
