Paul calls himself a bondservant of Jesus Christ. Such a sense of devotion springs from an awareness of the great love Christ has demonstrated by His death. Paul was not just a servant to the Lord but a slave as well and answerable only to Him.

The Jew trusted his law to be all that he needed and the best education he could get. Thus he boasted in the God who gave that law. There is no doubt that many Jews felt they were immune from God’s judgment.
