An Explanation of Grace

Titus 2:11-15

I. Grace Leaves All Without Excuse

“For the grace of God has appeared to all men.” – v. 11

A. Men are without excuse concerning salvation

“For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen…..so that they are without excuse.” – Romans 1:20

B. Men are without excuse in their grace toward others

“..forgiving one another just as Christ forgave you.” – Eph. 4:32

1. Our grace is revealed in our compassion

2. Our grace is revealed in our willingness to forgive

3. Our grace is revealed in our love for the unlovely

II. Grace Educates

“teaching us….” – v. 12a

A. Grace teaches us what to avoid

1. We should avoid godless behavior

2. We should avoid godless speech

3. We should avoid ungodly lust for pleasure (Heb. 11:25)

B. Grace teaches how to live (Phil. 3:7-8)

1. Right in our mind - soberly

2. Right toward others- righteously

3. Right toward God – godly

C. Grace teaches through change

1. Change of heart

2. Change of mind

3. Change of behavior

III. Grace Encourages

“..looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.” – v. 13

A. Grace encourages us to look forward to the future

1. Because we do not hold the future

2. Because we have a secure future

B. Grace encourages us to look forward to the end of sin

IV. Grace Involves

“…and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works” –v. 14

A. Grace should put the commission in our heart

B. Grace should light a fire in our desire to serve God

C. Grace should give us a purpose
