Summary: The second in a series of when sin is in the camp. This focuses on the tactics of Satan in tempting man to sin.

NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN

Text: Ecclesiastes 1: 9-10

An old saying goes “everything old is new again”.

Clothes that considered “cool” when I was a teen are in fashion again.

Classic style for cars is all the rage.

Nick at Night and T V Land show the old classic shows.

It seems that things are just running in cycle.

Another old saying goes like this “If we don’t learn from history we are doomed to repeat it.”

So then, if as the text says there is nothing new under the sun, then we need to be aware of this.

That the same tactics used by the devil in the past are still here today.

As we look to the Word of God we will see that there is:

Nothing New Under The Sun

I. The Snake In The Garden (Genesis 3)

A. Now the snake was more subtil than any beast of the field.

1. More than any beast, not man.

2. Adam was an intelligent person. Not in La-La land.

B. Go ahead and eat.

1. It will make you like God.

2. It will show you have authority over what you do.

C. Surely you won’t die.

1. God won’t punish you for that.

2. You are His creation, He loves you to much. Go Ahead!

D. God’s creation is condemned. With a promise (Gen 3:15)

II. The Temptation of Christ (Matthew 4)

A. Tempted in the flesh, in pride, and in power. (same as Eden)

B. God’s redemptive plan is threaten. (Gethsemane)

C. Satan failed in this attempt.

C. Nothing new under the sun.

III. The Outside Attempt Of Destroying The Early Church. (Acts 4)

A. From Rome.

B. Old Covenant leaders.

C. This failed also.

IV. The Inside Attempt On The Early Church. ( Acts 5)

A. Annanias and Sapphira. (tell the story)

B. They conspired in their hearts to sin. (lie)

C. Satan had infiltrated the early church through this.

D. Sin was dealt with right then, and the Church grew.

Conclusion: The tactics that the enemy used and is still using today have not changed.

He will attack the body , God’s people.

He is still trying to destroy God‘s people, and the sad thing is in some he succeeds.

They yield to the temptation he presents and fall.

He tempts with wealth, pride and power even today.

And his line hasn’t changed “Surely you won’t die”

That lie has not and will not change. The wages of sin is death… (Romans 6:23)

That is one wage that will not change.
