Summary: Justification is a free gift that God has given us in Christ Jesus.

The FREE Gift

Every once in a while we hear preachers say that Jesus came to get back what Adam lost. Now, this theory is so widespread that people actually believe that what Adam lost, Jesus regained on the cross.

For the past week, I'm stuck on Romans 5 and this morning was no different, it seemed as though I could not get past the chapter and I sensed that there is something that God wants me to see.........so I continued to stay on the page and read through the verses of Romans 5.

One of the things that stood out from that chapter is this verse:

Romans 5:9 Therefore, since we are now justified (acquitted, made righteous, and brought into right relationship with God) by Christ's blood, how much more [certain is it that] we shall be saved by Him from the indignation and wrath of God.

We hear "doom's day" preachers blow their horn about the coming wrath and destruction - Armageddon......but if we look at this verse there is something so amazing.

Paul writes and says that since we are justified and made righteous by the blood of Christ, then how much more shall we be SAVED from the indignation and wrath of God. We have heard preachers say that we are SAVED by the blood of Jesus, but how about being SAVED from the indignation and wrath of God as well.

Surely we cannot take one part of the verse and leave the other out.

So if the Word of God we just saw is true, then what we have (possibly) heard in the past must be wrong.

Now, concerning what Adam lost and what Jesus gave, let's take a look at these two verses.

Romans 5:15 But God's free gift is not at all to be compared to the trespass [His grace is out of all proportion to the fall of man]. For if many died through one man's falling away (his lapse, his offense), much more profusely did God's grace and the free gift [that comes] through the undeserved favor of the one Man Jesus Christ abound and overflow to and for [the benefit of] many.

God's FREE GIFT cannot be compared to the trespass of Adam (taken in context to what Paul was talking about). We keep hearing preachers saying that Jesus got back what Adam lost. What Adam lost was through TRANSGRESSION and the FREE GIFT of God CANNOT be compared to Adam's transgression.

Romans 5:16 Nor is the free gift at all to be compared to the effect of that one [man's] sin. For the sentence [following the trespass] of one [man] brought condemnation, whereas the free gift [following] many transgressions brings justification (an act of righteousness).

Again in the next verse Paul emphasizes that the GIFT cannot be compared to the SIN.

Through the SIN of one man - ADAM, death reigned and passed upon ALL men. But through the FREE GIFT of one man - JESUS CHRIST - all can reign as Kings in life through and with JESUS CHRIST.

If, as we have heard in the past that Adam lost all authority, life and every blessing when he fell, then what guarantee do we have that we will stand after receiving what Adam (supposedly lost) and what Christ gave us? - NONE.

Jesus came to give us LIFE, not restore something that Adam lost.

Take the Word of God as it is and let it speak for itself. Receive life when you read the Word.

Be blessed and stay blessed!
