3. Let’s read our passage.

4. The purpose of our lesson will be better understand the meaning and importance of the resurrection.

DISCUSSION

I. WHAT DOES THE RESURRECTION MEAN TO CHRIST?

1. THE RESURRECTION IS A FULLFILLMENT OF PROPHECY.

Psalm 16:8-10-11, “…………………..”

Acts 2:22-32, “………………”

2. THE RESURRECTION ESTABLISHES THE LORDSHIP OF CHRIST.

Acts 2:32-36

Matt. 28:11

3. THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST ENABLED CHRIST TO BRUISE THE HEAD OF SATAN.

Gen. 3:15

1 John 3:8

II. WHAT DOES THE RESURRECTION MEAN TO THE CHURCH?

1. THE RESURRECTION HAS MUCH TO DO WITH THE DAY ON WHICH THE CHRUCH ASSEMBLES TO WORSHIP THE FATHER.

In Rev. 1:10 John speaks of being in the spirit on the Lord’s day.

Spoken of the Lord’s day because this was the day Christ was resurrected. Luke 24:1-3, “……………..”

The Lord’s day {the first day of the week – our Sunday} is the day that the church is to assemble and worship God through the five avenues that are taught in the N. T.

Acts 20:7 & 1 Cor. 11:23-26 teach that we are to worship God through partaking of the Lord’s Supper. 52 times a year, not just Christmas and Easter or just once a month or quarterly.

Acts 20:7 & Acts 2:42 teach that the preaching and learning of God’s word is a second avenue of worship.

1 Cor. 16:1,2 teach that giving is a third avenue of worship.

Acts 2:42 teaches that prayer is a fourth avenue of worship.

Acts 2:47 &16:25 & Eph. 5:19 teach that vocal music (singing) is a fifth avenue of worship to the Father.

2. THE RESURRECTION IS CONNECTED WITH THE TERMS OF ENTRANCE INTO THE CHURCH.

ROM. 6:3-6

Col. 2:12

Being in Christ is at the time being in his church. Acts 2:38, 41, 47; 1 Cor. 12:13.

3. THE RESURRECTION ASSURES THE CHURCH OF VICTORY.

Matt. 16:18

Dan. 2:44

Heb. 12:28

III. THE RESURRECTION HAS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT MEANING FOR THE CHRISTIAN.

1. CHRIST’S RESURRECTION ASSURES CHRISTIANS OF THEIR OWN RESURRECTION.

1 Cor. 15:20-24.

1 Cor. 15:50-53.

Christ is the down payment, the pledge, or guarantee of the Christian’s own resurrection.

2. ANOTHER MEANINGFUL THING FOR THE CHRISTIAN, DUE TO CHRIST’S RESURRECTION, IS THAT CHRIST WAS RASIED FOR OUR JUSTIFICATION.

The resurrection is linked to our salvation.

Rom. 4:24&25 teaches that a dead Christ could not redeem man.

Abraham is being commended for his strong faith in God. A preserved and declared reminder of Abraham’s faith is in our N. T.

to encourage you and I to have strong faith pertaining to the possibility of salvation, due to the resurrection of Christ.

Rom. 10:9 declares, “…if thou shalt believe in thy heart that Jesus rose from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

3. A third thing the resurrection does for the Christian is that it gives us a living hope, which provides comfort.

1 Pet. 1:3&4

1 Thess. 4:13-18

4. A FOURTH THING, THE RESURRECTION GIVES THE CHRISTIAN POWER.

Phil. 3:10,11

Phil. 4:13 is written because of Jesus’ victory over death.

IV. FOURTH, WE HAVE STUDIED WHAT THE RESURRECT MEANS TO THE CHRIST – TO THE CHURCH – TO CHRISTIANS – AND NOW WHAT THE RESURRECTION MEANS TO A NON-CHRISTIAN.

Turn to Acts 17:30&31. The resurrection is God’s pledge that one day there will be a judgment day! Just as sure as the Bible and witnesses prove that Christ has been resurrected – the forthcoming judgment is a 110% sure thing to come. We must be prepared and ready.

Ecclesiastes 12:13,14; 8:11; 9:10; Matt. 28:18,19.
