Summary: Part 2 The Tabernacle

THE COURT AND THE WALL

(Ex. 27:9-15:9-15; 33:9-17)

In the order of the building of the tabernacle it was from God to man. This corresponds to the order found in the Epistle to the Ephesians. In our study of the Tabernacle we shall go from man to God. This is the order of the Epistle to the Romans. Here we see man is on the outside; God is in the holiest of all, dwelling between the cherubim, over the blood-sprinkled mercy seat.

1. The size of the court.

• The court was a rectangle, 150' feet long and 75' feet wide (based on cubit 18').

• In the west end of the court stood the tabernacle, 45' long & 1 5' wide.

• The actual Tabernacle was divided into two rooms.

a. The first, called the holy place, was 30' long & 15' wide, and 15' high.

b. The second room, called the holiest of all, was a perfect cube, 15xl 5xl 5

c. There is an analogy between this arrangement and man

• The court corresponding to the body

• The holy place to the soul

• The holiest of all to the spirit.

2. The wall

• The wall consisted of 60 brass pillars; 20 on each side and 10 on each end.

• These pillars stood in sockets of brass, and had hooks and fillets of silver.

• On the hooks there was hung the linen wall, seven and one-half feet wide,

completely surrounding the court.

3. The purpose of the wall.

• A wall has a two-old purpose. It is an excluder and an enclosure.

• In this case, it excluded man who was on the outside, from God who was on the inside. Between man and

God there is a barrier.

• Job cried out, "Neither is there any days man betwixt us, that he might lay his hand upon us both" (Job. 9:33).

• He realized there was a need of someone to remove the barrier between him and God.

4. The linen.

• Linen is a type of righteousness (Rev. 19:8).

• Between man and God there is a wall of righteousness.

• Christ said, "Except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and the Pharisees, ye

shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven" (Mt. 5:20).

• To a Pharisee, who had reached the pinnacle of distinction and honor, Christ said, "Except a man be born

from above, he cannot see the kingdom of God" (John 3:3)

• James says, "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all"

(Jas. 2: 1 0).

The wall between man and God is too white and too high for man, in his filthy rags of self-righteousness to pass to God.

5. Brazen pillars and sockets.

1. Brass, in Scripture, speaks of judgment (Num. 21:9; John 3:14; Rev. 1: 1 5).

• Man is sinful and our deeds are sinful.

• Sinful man DOES WHAT HE DOES because... HE IS WHAT HE IS.

• He is not a thief because he steals; he steals because he is a thief.

• Because of what man is .... and what man does .... man is under the judgment of God. (John 3:18)

( Romans. 3:19, 23).

6. Hooks and fillets of silver.

• Silver in Scripture, speaks of redemption (Ex. 30:12-16; 38:27).

This is why when King David numbered the people,70,000 men were killed by the angel. David, as king had the

right to number the people. But he did not pay the redemption tax (.32 in our money based on a shekel

@.64). The tax did not redeem a person’s soul…it simply served as a reminder of God’s provision of

redemption and of their obligation under the Mosaic covenant.

• Man is a slave, sold under sin (Gal. 3: 10).

• He needs to be redeemed, - taken out, and set free.

• He is unable to do this for himself (Ephesians. 2:1-3, 11, 12).

2 Cor. 5:21

1 Timothy 2:5

The linen wall with silver hooks on top and brass pillars and sockets on the bottom typify the great mediator between God and man; the Lord Jesus Christ

Hebrews 8:6; 12:24

WHAT IS A MEDIATOR?

A GO-BETWEEN, A DEFENSE ATTORNEY AT LAW

A mediator is under obligation to offer something to both parties. He must satisfy the claims of both parties so as to reconcile them.

God demanded punishment for sin- Man is a sinner condemned to death

Someone had to make atonement for sinful man and at the same time meet God’s demand for total righteousness. Then if this man could be found God would reconcile Himself with sinful man.

The problem is no man could be found to meet the requirements of God. All men have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God. (Romans 5:12). Thank God Jesus met the requirement. In Him was found no sin, (1 Peter 2;22). Jesus is our mediator (1 Timothy 2:5)
