Summary: The believer’s opinion of Christ.

1. HIS HEAD

"His head is as the most fine gold".

We are reminded of the description given of the risen Saviour by John in Revelation 1:14 "His head and his hairs were white like wool".

The head that once was crowned with thorns

Is crowned with glory now;

A royal diadem adorns

The mighty Victor’s brow.

2. HIS EYES

"His eyes are as the eyes of doves".

Surely this is a reference to the weeping of Christ. The dove is a mournful bird. Our blessed Redeemer was a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.

Man of Sorrows! what a name

For the Son of God, who came

Ruined sinners to reclaim!

Hallelujah! what a Saviour!

3. HIS HANDS

"His hands are as gold rings".

Rings have a hole in the middle. So have the hands of Jesus. Psalm 22:16 "They pierced my hands and my feet".

The Bride eyes not her garment,

But her dear Bridegroom’s face;

I will not gaze at glory but on my King of grace.

Not at the crown He giveth but on His pierced hand;

The Lamb is all the glory

Of Immanuel’s land.

4. HIS LEGS

"His legs are as pillars of marble".

There is a reference to the legs of Jesus in John 19:33 "When they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs". The Saviour’s legs were, in a sense, like marble because the soldiers were not permitted to break them. This was a direct fulfilment of the Passover lamb in Exodus 12:46 "Neither shall ye break a bone thereof".

5. HIS COUNTENANCE

"His countenance is as Lebanon".

Christ is being compared to Mount Lebanon - a place of excellence and great beauty.

And did those feet in ancient time

Walk upon England’s mountains green?

And was the Holy Lamb of God

On England’s pleasant pastures seen?

And did the countenance divine

Shine forth upon our clouded hills?

And was Jerusalem builded here

Among these dark satanic mills?
