Summary: Study of the Walks of Ephesians

Title: Walking in Lord

Theme: Understanding how to walk in the Lord and what is required

Text: Ephesians.

I. Walk in good works Ephesians 2:10

We were created by God. We know this from the beginning of Genesis. He is our creator. So he has a right to our lives. In this verse we see that we are his workmanship". We are his project. We are his vessel and he is the potter. He molds us in the way of will.

What is our purpose? We are created in Christ Jesus unto good works. I am reminded of the story of Pinocchio. A young boy who was created but wandered off from his master. But his master brings him back. We have wandered from our master but our master through Christ Jesus wants to bring us back. Why? for good works. To do good works for him. All that our testimony might be clean.

II. Walk worth of vocation Ephesians 4:1.

The second walk of Ephesians is found in Ephesians 4:1. We are to walk worthv of the vocation. To walk worthy of the job in which we are called to do. It is not in ju~t ~ the job but it is how you act outside the job. If your actions and attitudes have a bad reflection on your vocation then you are not walking worthy of it.

Paul writing to Timothy about the qualifications of a Bishop gives this as a requirement.

I Timothy 3:7~--

Philippians 1:27

Colossians 1:10

The idea is that we all nave a job to do to fulfill the gospel of Jesus Christ. Most of know our calling in the Lord. We also know that we must walk the walk to be able to fulfill this job.

III. Walk not as Gentiles walk Ephesians 4:17..

The third walk is not to walk as the Gentiles walk. How?

A. "in the vanity of their mind"

Ignoring sin in mind first.. Starts with this.

B. "Having the understanding darkened4'

Their rationalization is clouded. They have no perception of morality. Oh, now tills is a good one. I have even seen this in the lives of Christians. They can convince themselves that anything is right no matter what the evidence shows.

C. "being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in heart because of blindness of their heart"

They are alienated from God and never realize it. Other religions. New Age. D. "being past feelings have given themselves over unto lasciviousness"

Finally being past feelings they just give up and over to total sin.

IV. Walk in love Ephesians 5:2

This sums up our whole relationship with God and our fellow man.

Mark 12:29

And who is our greater example but Christ hihiseit He is the one who gave himself for us on the cross that we may a sweetsmelling offering unto God.

John 15:13

V. Walk as children of the light Ephesians 5:8 - 10

We are to walk as children of the light. We were once darkness. Not just in darkness but our lives were littered and filled with darkness. But now we are light because God is light.

I John 1:7

We do this by walking in goodness righteousness (living a ri~t life) and in Inith (God's word is truth.)

VI. Walk circumspectly

Ephesians 5:15

Last we walk circumspectly. Walk carefully,'. Watching every step. Do this by; not walking as the fools.

Ways of the foolish.

Psalms 14:

Psalms 49:10

Proverbs 12:15

Proverbs 14: 6

Ways of Wise.

A. Redeeming the time

B. Understanding the will of the Lord.

Walk

Our walk is the only thing that people we see in this world. They only know us by our walk. This could be good or bad. I am posed with a question in the many churches that I have been in. Usually when I talk to someone I like to find common ground. Then hopefully my conversation will lead to salvation. But my question that I am posed with is should I tell them I go to church with so and so. Will this help or hurt my witness?
