Introduction

• “If we wish to be free we must fight!....I repeat it, sir we must fight! An appeal to arms, and to the God of hosts, is all that is left us. It is vain, sir, to extenuate the matter. The gentlemen may cry “Peace, peace!...”Our brethren are already on the field. Why stand we here idle?...Is life so dear or peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God.I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!”

• This impassioned speech made by Patrick henry stirred the souls of men to fight for liberty.

• We still hold him up as one of America’s greatest heroes

• Americans are quick to respond to the call to fight for freedom.

• WE have sent troop all over the world to fight tyranny and injustice, and to help people live free lives.

• But when it comes to living out our Christianity, we give up our liberty w/o a fight.

• Just let a few legalists in and we give them command of the ship.

• We fear their frowns, and adapt our lives to their lists, and for the sake of peace at any price, even slavery, we succumb to their agenda.

• What is this thing call legalism?

• Legalism is My effort by my resources to obey God for my glory.

The Book of Galatians is like Patrick henry’s speech

• It inflames people to live for the Lord by grace

• it has been called the Magna Carta of Christian Liberty.

• It so inflamed men like Martin Luther, that it brought about the Protestant Reformation.

• It also brought tremendous persecution to those who have stood against the legalists, because we are in a battle just as Paul was and this book will aid us to be free in Christ to serve Him as He called us to.

• The first 10 verses give us the occasion and the theme of this epistle

• then they get right into the problem
