Summary: This is the 2nd of 2 workshops done at the Nightvision event in Colorado (July 9-10, 2010) on practical ways to share the Good News. Please listen to workshop 1 also!

Recap from yesterday...

Nightvision theme: Holiness.

Sins of Commission come to mind but sins of omission are an issue too.

We are set apart for Him as ambassadors.

Superbowl analogy.

Revival is here - Over 260,000 people hear the gospel and more than 174,000 trust Christ worldwide every single day (34,000 in SA, over 30,000 in China, 25,000 in Africa, 16,000 in Muslim countries and more all around the world)!

Acts 17:26-27 - He put you here to win your community to Him.

The hotter the desert the thirstier people will be.

We need to start giving them water.

In Jn.12:32-33, Jesus promises us that He is already drawing every person on this earth to Himself.

Jesus tells us in Mt.9:37 that “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.”

Ex. Tom Traub.

You have the privilege of being a part of the greatest revival in history.

Jesus gives us the Great Commission in Mt.28:18-20, saying, "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Repeat after me: The Great Commission is MY responsibility.

In Mt.4:19, Jesus tells us something about all that follow Him. He says, “Come, follow me and I will make you fishers of men.”

Repeat after me: Evangelism is MY responsibility.

Mt.13:1-9 - Sowing seed on the road, in rocks, among weeds and in good soil.

DCC - Be a seed chucker.

Few results = not enough seed sown!!!

Col.4:5 - Make the most of every opportunity.

You’re already talking, learn how to bring Christ into conversations you’re already having and into your sphere of influence.

Activity 1 - What are you already talking about?

Side note (but it’s important) Analyze your conversation topics - Out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks (Mt.12:34).

Demystify evangelism - talk about who you love.

Bringing Christ into your conversations requires that you break the 4 sound barriers.

Workshop Training:

The 4 Sound barriers.

Sharing the gospel involves breaking 4 different “sound barriers.” They are called sound barriers because each involves your need to speak. Each barrier represents a real point in every conversation where you will be tempted to give in to fear and back down. It is vitally important to analyze where you are at in a conversation and trust Him to cross the next sound barrier.

Sound Barrier #1 – Meeting someone and initiating a conversation.

This can be done in a natural way (ex. Ask a question of someone you are near at some location - like asking, “What’s the best item on this menu?” at a coffee shop or restaurant).

List ideas for meeting people in different situations.

After meeting someone, asking questions about them is a natural way to keep a conversation going.

Learn to ask good questions to develop and direct good conversations.

Summarize and reference some good ideas from Tactics.

Start with “what questions” to find out more about the person and his or her viewpoints.

Then use “why questions” to find out more about how they came to believe the way they do.

Eventually use “leading questions” that go towards the gospel from the conversation you are already having.

Ex. Brian

This can be done using various ministry tools - like a short spiritual interest survey (ex. Ask, “do you have a couple of minutes for a quick spiritual interest survey?”)

Using a tool like a survey or the Soularium naturally gets you through the 1st 2 barriers instantly.

Activity 2 - Come up with creative ways to meet people and create 3 good questions you’ll use to get the conversation going naturally.

Ask about their interests, job, hobbies, etc and try to relate (remember your conversation topics from activity 1).

Sound Barrier #2 – Moving from a general conversation to a spiritual conversation.

Once you are talking with someone about general topics (the weather, news, hobbies, etc.) it is easy to transition to a spiritual conversation by asking thoughtful questions.

Ex. If you’re talking about the news and the bad in the world you could easily ask why they think evil exists.

Activity 3 - Come up with creative transition questions to a spiritual conversation from the topics you listed in Activity 1.

Come up with 2 transition questions for each of your main conversation areas listed in activity 1.

Activity 4 - Try it out: Meet someone new (half the room first then we’ll switch) and use your conversation questions from Activity 2 to get the conversation going. Then use your transition questions from Activity 3 to bring up a spiritual topic.
