Noah The Man Life Couldn’t Sink
Heroes of the Faith - Part 3
Text: Genesis 6:6-8
Noah is the second on my list of Heroes of Faith. He is a hero, a champion of those who say “yes” to the plan of God later in their life. We are not told anything about Noah’s younger years. We do know that his father, Lamech followed God. Lamech’s generation began to see the rapid decline in faithfulness toward God. Lamech’s father, Methuselah was dead; significant because His very name prophesied that “after this, the judgment”, and judgment was surely imminent.
Scripture says that “the Lord saw the wickedness of man was great in the earth”…. that his every through, all day long, was evil. Then we read one of the saddest verses in all of scripture, “and the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth”… some translations say “God repented that he had made man”
Then comes this young man of a spry 500 years old, named Noah.
He lived in a day
• When men were universally corrupt (6:1-7)
• When sin was glamorized and righteousness was scoffed
• When the covenant of marriage was replaced with the convenience of fancy
• When holy men pursued unholy things
• When it was not popular to be called a follower of God.
• When to live for God meant to face public ridicule
Noah is a Hero of Faith because:
1. He lived a life of Holiness in the midst of Moral Decay
By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.
a. Holiness is being attached to God rather than enticed by the world.
b. Holiness is progressively walking with God.
2. He endured daily ridicule
3. He saved his whole family from destruction
4. His comparison to our Great Hero – Jesus
a. He walked with God (v. 9)
that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
b. He prepared a way of Salvation (v 14)
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh,
c. He finished the work given to him (v 22)
I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.
d. He cause his family to “overcome” the flood
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. (you won’t even smell like smoke)
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, or sword?
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
So what can we glean from this Hero of Faith? Look at Hebrews 11:7 one more time.

A hero doesn’t rely on only what they see
A hero fears God
A hero makes a way to salvation
A hero is a person of Covenant
Heroes, don’t loose heart, storm clouds may come, floods may rise but….
being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
