Love Countdown Video 5 minutes prior to service

4 “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres/ Love never fails”

What the World needs now is Love (agape love)

We have talked the past two weeks about Love for the world and for each other.

We are going to continue today looking at what love is not which in turn will tell us what love is.

1. love is not rude.

This means that love must be respectful and polite

Do we view the world and those in it with respect and treat them politely?

Monday night 50 of you did when you hosted the community forum (someone else using this sermon can use their own example here)

To act unbecomingly

How do we act out in the world or here in the church?

1. Love is not rude

2. Love is not self-seeking

How much of our love is really trying to get something for ourselves

Many church members want to love the world to entice them to become church members to grow a church

Craving and demanding for yourself

Is our love self centered? Is it looking out for ourselves or are we truly looking out for others?

The world is look out for itself and we tend to follow.

As Christians we should look similar to the world but live differently

Most of us look different than the world and live very simlarly

1. Love is not rude

2. Love is not self seeking

3. Love is not easily angered

Billy Martin told about hunting in Texas with Mickey Mantle. Mickey had a friend who would let them hunt on his ranch. When they reached the ranch, Mickey told Billy to wait in the car while he checked in with his friend. Mantle’s friend quickly gave them permission to hunt, but he asked Mickey a favor. He had a pet mule in the barn who was going blind, and he didn’t have the heart to put him out of his misery. He asked Mickey to shoot the mule for him. When Mickey came back to the car, he pretended to be angry. He scowled and slammed the door. Billy asked him what was wrong, and Mickey said his friend wouldn’t let them hunt. "I’m so mad at that guy," Mantle said, "I’m going out to his barn and shoot one of his mules!" Mantle drove like a maniac to the barn. Martin protested, "We can’t do that!" But Mickey was adamant. "Just watch me," he shouted. When they got to the barn, Mantle jumped out of the car with his rifle, ran inside, and shot the mule. As he was leaving, though, he heard two shots, and he ran back to the car. He saw that Martin had taken out his rifle, too. "What are you doing, Martin?" he yelled. Martin yelled back, face red with anger, "We’ll show that son of a gun! I just killed two of his cows!" Anger can be dangerously contagious. (sermoncentral)

This one is a hard one for many people.

If we really love, we are able to control anger.

It is typically easy to hold our anger around the world but what about around each other.

Provoke, spur on, exasperate

If Christians could get along without anger, the world would take notice.

4. Love keeps no record of wrongs

Aren’t we great at reminding each other of the wrongs we have committed?

Ever find yourself reminding your spouse of past wrongs? That isn’t real love.

Calculate or take into account wrong doing or bad nature

We should not worry about each others or the worlds sin. That is God’s issue, not ours. We should simply love them.

What the world needs now is love. They need love so they can find the savior.
