Summary: A challenge to commit ourselves and covenant together in the body of Christ.

What are we aiming for?

Getting onboard with the church family

Part 3

A. A church covenant is an agreement between parties on certain matters

a. We could then say, that the covenant we will enter into the next week or so, is our solemn agreement between the other brothers and sisters in this fellowship, ourselves and God.

b. The church is not just about me, its not even just about us.. it is about us together WITH God, whose blood bought and cleansed the church.

Take heed unto yourselves…, and feed the church of the God which he purchased with his own blood. (Acts 20:28)

B. The Word of God has many examples of covenants between people and between people and God

1. Abraham is one such example. (Gen. 15:7-18)

Gen. 15:17-18

And it came to pass, when the sun went down and it was dark, that behold, there appeared a smoking oven and a burning torch that passed between those pieces.

On the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your descendants I have given this land… (Gen 15:17-18)

B. It is according to the Word of God that you commit yourselves to a church group where you can function in the context of the body.

Read together, 1 Cor. 12:12-31

C. A look at our church covenant in detail

My Covenant to the church family of Living Word Community Church

Having received Christ as my Lord and Savior and been baptized, and being in agreement with the purpose and mission statements, I now feel led by the Holy Spirit to commit myself to God and to the church family to do the following:

1. I Will Protect the Unity of My Church

by acting in love toward others

by refusing to gossip

by following the biblical example of my leaders

2. I Will Share the Responsibility of My Church

by praying for its growth and vitality

by inviting others to attend

by warmly welcoming those who visit

3. I Will Serve the Ministry of My Church

by discovering my gifts and talents

by being equipped to serve with the assistance of my pastors

by developing a servant’s heart

4. I Will Support the Testimony of My Church

by attending faithfully

by living a godly life

by giving regularly

5. I Will Maintain the Purity of My Church

by dressing modestly

by remaining chaste (free from impurity) before marriage

by staying faithful to my husband/wife till death

6. And above all, by staying true to my commitments.
