Summary: Those who know God must exhibit brotherly love.
I. Declaration of the Commandment (verses 7-8a)
Old Testament – 10 Commandments
Last 6 deal with social relationships (a true expression
of heart attitudes – LOVE)
New Testament – John 13:34-35 Jesus said 3X
John 15:12-13; 17 John said 6X
II. Transformation of the Commandment (verse 8b)
True in Him (Jesus) and you
1. Jesus: Sacrifice for sin (darkness is past)
2. You: Love of God in heart; power of the Holy Spirit
(Light now shining) shining – to show; empower or reveal
III. Illustration of the Commandment (verses 9-11)
Interpersonal Relationships within the Body of Christ
Agape’ love – the steady direction of the will for the good of another.
Result: No cause for stumbling in you
Ephesians 4:27, “Neither give place to the Devil”
“Do not give the Devil an opportunity” (NASB)
