Summary: A sermon of ENCOURAGEMENT for the New Year.

5 NEW THINGS FOR THE NEW YEAR.

Revelation 21:1-7- Jesus said in verse 5 "Behold, I make all things new".

As we enter the new year many folks will make plans to make a new start. They will make new resolutions for the new year. Resolutions to lose weight, have a different attitude, make more money & the list goes on & on.

Let’s take a look into God’s Word at 5 new things that we can obtain & experience in the new year.

#1- A NEW SONG

PSALMS 96:1- "O, sing unto the Lord a NEW SONG".

2007 is going to be the year for the church to sing a new song. It’s time for us to sing a new song about God’s love, goodness, mercy, joy & grace.

We need to break all of our old records that we have sung for years that speak of defeat, loss, depression & negativity.

Illustration- What do you get when you play a country song backwards? You get your wife back, you get your house back, you get your truck back, you get your dog back.............

That sounds funny but, many folks in the body of Christ have been singing a sad old song for so long that they have forgotten how it feels to sing about the goodness of God.

Let’s enter 2007 with a NEW SONG in our hearts & on our lips.

#2- A NEW HEART

Ezekiel 36:26- "A NEW HEART also will I give you".

A NEW HEART. What a wonderful gift for the new year. A gift that only God can give.

There are thousands of people all over the world who have their names on a list. They are waiting for a new heart, a new physical heart. A few of them will receive that new heart but, sadly most of them will not.

That’s not the case with this NEW HEART that God has promised to us. Everyone that asks for this NEW HEART will receive it, free of charge, no strings attached, no waiting list. Just ask in faith & receive it!

We can all receive a new Spiritual heart in 2007. A heart full of love, compassion & kindness toward our fellow man. The heart of Christ.

#3- A NEW SPIRIT

Ezekiel 36:26- "A NEW SPIRIT will I put within you".

God has promised to put a NEW SPIRIT within us. I like that idea because there are times when I don’t have the right spirit within me. There are times when I have a wrong attitude & a wrong spirit. I can be short tempered & grumpy. But, thanks be unto God for that NEW SPIRIT! He said in the next verse (Ezekiel 36:27) that He would put HIS SPIRIT in us.

Can you imagine that? God’s Spirit in us. A Spirit of love, righteousness & mercy.

Not just a NEW SPIRIT but, God’s own Spirit!

#4- A NEW COVENANT

Jeremiah 31:31- "Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a NEW COVENANT with the house of Israel & the house of Judah".

GOD is a COVENANT GOD. He is a GOD of Promises. He has made A NEW COVENANT with us! Not just for 2007 but, for all the days of our lives.

We are no longer bound by the old covenant.

The old covenant demanded a sacrificial lamb for the atonement of our sins but, throught this NEW COVENANT, Jesus Christ himself became that sacrificial Lamb & paid the debt for our sin once & for all.

The old covenant said that we could only approach God at certain times & even then we had to go through the high priest.

This NEW COVENANT says that we can approach the Throne of God Boldy.

This NEW COVENANT has made us Heirs & Joint Heirs with Jesus!

#5- A NEW NAME

Revelation 2:17- Jesus said- "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; to him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a NEW NAME written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it".

When you receive a NEW NAME, you are no longer known by your old name. If someone calls you by your old name you are under no obligation to respond or even acknowledge them.

When you accept the Blood of Christ that was shed at Calvary you receive a NEW NAME. You are no longer the sinner that you once were. You are now the righteousness of God in Christ.

The sad truth is that many people in the Body of Christ are still going by their old names. They are hung up in the past or bound by their family history.
