Summary: Sin (and iniquity) is the disease all men experience. The symptoms of that disease in the mind are summarized as the lusts of the eyes.

Sin (and iniquity) is the disease all men experience.

The symptoms of that disease in the mind are summarized as the lusts of the eyes.

Lusts of the eyes:

>Envy: painful or resentful awareness of an advantage enjoyed by another joined with a desire to possess the same advantage

>Covetousness:

>a) marked by inordinate desire for wealth or possessions (or for another's possessions); b) an intense selfish desire for wealth or possessions

ENVY-Sheol and Abaddon are never satisfied, Nor are the eyes of a person ever satisfied. - Proverbs 27:20

COVET -“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.” EX 20:17

The aid to overcome these lusts is summarized as a fruit of the Spirit; specifically-

Love: 1Co 13:4: love is kind and does not envy

Note: envy in a person is often revealed by their UNkind behavior toward those who are the object of their envy!

Lust desires to GET at the expense of others.

Love desires to GIVE at the expense of self.

If you cultivate the fruit of love, it will cause you to die to envy and love of mammon.

Discuss Matt 6:24 Two Masters

A 1 or 2 self-rating indicates you haven’t yet been very diligent about crucifying/ restraining/ disciplining these impulses. The encouragement to you is you are self-honest.

Time to start relying on the Spirit to develop Love!

A 3 or 4 self-rating indicates you have an ongoing effort in developing Love.

Keep on keeping on!!
