Summary: Following Nehemiah's example will lead to church revitalization

Rebuilding the Walls

Nehemiah 7-8

Introduction: Illustration “Visitation from God”

I. Leadership needs to be faithful. (Vs. 1-2)

- (1Co_4:2 Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.)

- Jesus said the faithful servant will be blessed (Matthew 25:21; 24:46; 25:28)

- Jesus said those who are found unfaithful are not really of the faith. (Matthew 25:30; Luke 16:11)

II. The walls need to be guarded. (V.3)

- Once we have rebuilt that which was tore down we need to guard it carefully.

III. The Church needs to be Genuine. (Vs. 5-73)

- Billy Graham suggested that approx. 75% of those who attend church are really lost.

- (Mat_7:21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.)

IV. The word of God was prominent. (Vs. 1-8)

- Scripture must take a primary place in all that is done. It must be preached, taught, listened too, cherished, loved, relied on trusted, and put first.

- (Psalm 1)

V. The People celebrated God, His will, and His Work. (Vs. 8-18)

- When God moves we need to make a huge deal out of it.

- When people are saved we need to celebrate

- When people are delivered we need to celebrate

- When God does anything it deserves our celebration

Conclusion:

Finally, there are no shortcuts when it comes to revival. The church desperately needs revival, but it is not going to come by quick and easy methods. Evan Roberts prayed for eleven years before the Welsh Revival broke out, and his ministry during that remarkable time broke him physically. More than one hundred thousand people were converted to Christ during that mighty awakening, but it was not the result of manufactured meetings (they were spontaneous) or manmade promotions. True revival goes deeper than that.
