COMMUNION MEDITATION 7_THE CONTINUING MEAL

(1 Cor 11:23-26; Mark 14:22-25)

1 Cor 11:23-32

23 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. (NIV)

Mark 14:22-25

Mk 14:22 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take it; this is my body.”

Mk 14:23 Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, and they all drank from it.

Mk 14:24 “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many,” he said to them.

Mk 14:25 “I tell you the truth, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it anew in the kingdom of God.”

1. It is a meal that never ends. It is life-

giving food and drink emanating from the creator God, himself – Elohim.. Yes, we need the bread - we need his body. We need the wine - his blood. It is the meal that was instituted by our Lord himself. It is a covenant meal that has never lost its power. It is there for our healing; it’s there for our sustenance – it is there for our life!

2. Down through the ages this meal has continued –

in the same way as the church has stood the test of time, so with this memorial – Alleluyah to King Jesus whose death and resurrection we remember. But ah, what about his coming again? We look forward to that day with joy and excitement. That day when all believers shall be with Him and shall be like Him! Until that day will the Lord’s Supper continues – a fellowship meal of the utmost importance. It is on that day when we will be translated out of this earthly body into a heavenly body. It is on that day when there will be no more crying, no more dying and yes, Abba Father will wipe away every tear from our eyes. On that day we will sit down with the Master and drink of the fruit of the vine with him (Mark 14:25).

3. Rejoice oh my brothers and sisters – again I

say rejoice (Phil 4:4). We shall be like him; we shall see him as he is. Continue to feed off him; continue to celebrate the Lord’s Supper – on and on … into eternity. Oh, don’t even think of stopping now – He is the source of all good things! Press on and fight the good fight until that day (1 Tim 6:12). Run with perseverance my friend, look unto Jesus the authour and finisher of our faith (Heb. 12:1-2). Yes, we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Phil 4:13).

4. Remember Jesus; He will bring the meal to a

conclusion, for we shall again drink of the fruit of

the vine with Him in heaven - “Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the lamb” (Rev. 19:9). ***
