Praise our KING, PRIEST, PROPHET - Creator God of ALL things - Lamb of God; Humiliated for ALL to have life through HIS death and resurrection!
HEBREWS 2:9 "Tasted Death for ALL"
10 And it was only right that God—who made everything and for whom everything was made—should bring his many children into glory. Through the suffering of Jesus, God made him a perfect leader, one fit to bring them into their salvation.
Verse 10a - "It was only right" "who made everything and for whom everything was made - we see GOD
"IT was only right" or it was fitting - What we are about to see is in the NATURE of God. Consistent with His character.
○ God’s Wisdom - the cross, God’s solution to sin - no MAN could come up with this. Foolishness.
○ God’s Holiness - God’s judgment of SIN - Hatred of SINFULNESS not Humanity.
○ God’s Power - hours on the cross versus eternity of punishment
§ (Eternal God eternal payment for non HOLY mankind.)
○ God’s LOVE - God so loved the world that He gave…
○ God’s GRACE - Christ took our place / substitution
Verse 10b - "Through the suffering of Jesus"
○ ETERNAL God becoming man, dying when He shouldn’t have to
○ OMNISCIENT God forsaking ALL
○ HEAVENLY KING leaving His throne
○ HOLY FATHER becoming the SON
○ RULER becoming the SLAVE
○ CHRIST GIVING His LIFE
John 10:18 (NLT)
18 No one can take my life from me. I lay down my life voluntarily. For I have the right to lay it down when I want to and also the power to take it again. For my Father has given me this command."
Verse 10c "God made Him a PERFECT LEADER" Author; Prince - one who goes before; leading others and includes them in the plan.
○ LEADS us to FOLLOW
○ LEADS by EXAMPLE
○ LEADS in OBEDIENCE
Hebrews 5:8-9 (NLT)
8 So even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered.
9 In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him.
○ LEADS in SUFFERING
1 Peter 2:21 (NLT)
21 This suffering is all part of what God has called you to. Christ, who suffered for you, is your example. Follow in his steps.
DEATH - We should not fear death - Christ has beaten sin through His death and DEATH through His resurrection!
John 14:19 (NIV)
19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.
John 11:25-26 (NIV)
25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; 26 and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"
Verse 11: Jesus is our SUBSTITUTION and AUTHOR of our salvation; He also SANCTIFIES us!
SIN vs HOLY??? HOW are we Holy? POSITIONALLY! DECLARATION
Hebrews 10:10 (NIV)
10 And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
CHRIST became SIN: DESTROYED HIM and SIN! 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NLT)
21 For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
11 So now Jesus and the ones he makes holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters.
Verse 11: WE SEE our KINSHIP through Christ: We have God’s Holiness; Righteousness; Kinship (Born again into the family of DIVINITY!) See verse 12
12 For he said to God, "I will declare the wonder of your name to my brothers and sisters.
I will praise you among all your people."
PERFECT and HOLY - Should we NOT LIVE LIKE A KING’S KID?! God is NOT ASHAMED, Are we?
Brothers and Sisters instead of SHEEP and DISCIPLES! See what the Cross has done!
13 He also said, "I will put my trust in him." And in the same context he said, "Here I am—together with the children God has given me."
koinōnia —Fellowship (SHARE) We ARE human beings… COMMON
metechō—Jesus BECAME (Partook) NON COMMON - Taking Hold of something that is not yours
"He took something that was not his so we could take something that was not ours!"
DEFEATED SATAN - Discuss Spiritual Warfare - Battle is the Lord’s! Eph 6 = 6 Discipline
14 Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—Jesus also became flesh and blood by being born in human form. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the Devil, who had the power of death.
