INTRODUCTION:

One of the characteristics of the Apostolic church is its emphasis on the gifts of the Spirit. Some Christian movements pass by these gifts, while others see them simply as something that was finished in the book of Acts. Nevertheless, the gifts of the Spirit are alive today and we should seek them, to experience them and to use them to expand the Kingdom of God. God has gifted each member of the church with gifts and special abilities. Hebrews 2:4.

THREE TYPES OF SPIRITUAL GIFTS:

1. GIFTS OF REVELATION

A. Word of Wisdom - The Greek word that is used to define "wisdom" implies "understanding of the truth, just or lasting; good judgment." The purpose of this gift is to give divine guidance in the middle of a specific need.

B. Word of Knowledge - The Greek word that is used for "Knowledge" implies "familiarity, conscience”, when someone has this gift, from time to time he will receive information given by the Holy Spirit, for a person or situation.

C. Discernment of spirits-The word "discernment" implies "sharpness in the vision or the judgment". This gift permits that the person discern in a divine way, the different spirits.

2. GIFTS OF POWER

A. Faith - The word "faith" signifies confidence, dependence, or to believe in something without having tangible evidences. Beyond our daily faith, this gift implies to have a degree of faith out of the ordinary in a situation.

B. Work of miracles - The dictionary defines the word "miracle" in this manner: "Inexplicable event, extraordinary or marvelous, that is attributed to divine intervention".

C. Healing - "to Heal" implies "to restore the health, to cure" as opposed to the miracles, healing does not always have immediate results.

3. SPOKEN GIFTS

A. Tongues - The gift of tongues is a supernatural expression in one or more unknown languages to who speaks them. This gift builds chiefly to whom speaks, (1 Corinthians 14:2,4).

B. Interpretation of tongues - The gift of interpretation translates the message that God desires to give. While tongues edify the one who speaks them, the interpretation edifies the entire congregation.

1 Corinthian 14:12-13; 27-28

C. Prophecy - The word "prophecy" implies "an inspired declaration" or "a prediction of the future, made through divine inspiration" 1 Corinthians 14:4-5.

CONCLUSION

The Holy Spirit is the source of which all the spiritual gifts flow. The gifts of the Spirit can be imitated, but never copied or cloned. Paul reminds us that "To each one of us is given the demonstration of the Spirit for our benefit". In other words, the spiritual gifts have been us given so that we may be a blessing to each other.
